Artworks gallery at Baudin Beach has been open since 2004 and is manned entirely
by volunteers as an outlet for artists to display their work. It is run by Artists
Collective KI Inc, which was formed in 1999 to provide artists at the eastern end
of Kangaroo Island with a voice, and to promote and encourage art on the island as
a whole. As well as running the gallery, the Collective stages the popular Easter
Art Exhibition at Penneshaw every year and also holds regular workshops at the Baudin
Beach venue to bring well-known artists over from the mainland so that local artists
can learn from their skills.
Artworks is a friendly, bright, open space gallery where you can meet the artists
who have their work on display and can often see artists at work. It is also home
to the giant limestone octopus by local sculptor, Dave Clarke.
Artworks has a wide range of work in all mediums - painting, sculpture, photography,
pottery, jewellery, fabric craft, cards, timber work, prints, and more. Whether you
are looking for a unique piece of Kangaroo Island art or just a small memento of
your stay on the island you will find plenty to choose from at Artworks.
